Well, I just hate getting up early in the morning. I have to get up at 6:30 in the morning for college, and I hate being up so early. First of all, I'm not a morning person, and I just don't sleep good in the first place. It's so hard to get up that early, and I'm so dang tired in the morning! I go to bed at 11:00 at night, but that doesn't do any good! What ideas do you have about how to make getting up early not so much of a chore?

I'm just glad to wake up. Sure, there were many who thought I might not see another christmas.
Up at 7.00am shower, breakfast, walk Bruce in fierce warm sunshine, the autumn colours are deadly right now, the park is beautiful...but ahh man I wish I was back home in Kerry.

I am the same, I have to get up at six o'clock in the morning for college. First I have to feed Luke my guide dog then go for a shower. I am not a morning person iether. The bus comes between quarter past and twenty past 7 am. I am like a zomby my mum says in the morning.

Yikes you guys. I'm at College at the moment and they just can't seem to get my f***ing timetable sorted out, so I don't start till 10 or even half 11 most mornings, I get up at around half 7 and have a shower, stroll through five of those stupid locked fire doors to the kitchen for Breakfast, back to my room to pick up anything I want to take over to College with me, then spend an hour or so over here in the FLC till my first class of the day, with the acception of Wednesdays, where I have to get up at around halfpast 6 if I'm having a shower so I get over to Music Tech for my half 8 guitar lesson. Other than that though, I don't even realise there is a morning at the weekend. Whether I'm here at College at home, I don't get up till around 11 12:00, by which time, mum's probably been in to town, walked my Grandparents dog, put the washing on, been out done some gardening if its nice weather outside and then kicked me out of bed with a nice hot cupper and the promise she'll either eat or throw away my bacon sarny if I'm not downstairs, dressed and ready for whatever that particular day may bring, within 20 minutes. Lollol.

Getting up early in the morning sucks. I realize it is a part of life, having been engaged in it for the last 25 years or so with school, college, and work. It is a part of life for those of us who work days, but it's just one of those things I've never gotten good at!

Post 7 by audioadict (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 29-Oct-2007 12:52:15

I only get up early only if I have to. There's nothing good that will happen that day, so why even bother getting up. About the only time I liked getting up early was for work, which I loved the job.

take a bath, then you'll feel more awake and prezentable.

well, after I take a bath, I don't feel any different.

I've just gotten used to getting up at six every day even if I'm not in school yet. My guide dog's needs come before mine, and I intend to stay with the school's feeding and relieving schedule, unless I was so ill I couldn't get out of bed. that hasn't happened yet, though.

same here, except I ddo'nt do it for dog reasons, I just generally get up early during the week and on weekends. I imagine a lot of it comes with age and responceability and all that. From time to time I stay up late or most of the night and then get in habbits of sleeping all day or late and I've noticed that I generally end up feeling lazy and mentally dragging as well!

NO matter how early I go to bed, I still feel tired in the mornings. I think that's because I can't sleep good at night.

Are there anything that is distracting you from sleep? I liv in a dorm and get this loud air conditioning and silly college kids being loud. I sleep better at home.

another one of her complainings... is there anything in life besides computers and pack mates that you don't hate or complain about? seriously, i know getting up in the morning sucks, i wake up every morning at 5.45 or 6, do my things, take out my dog and go to work, the days i don't h ave to work in the afternoon i can't get some rest because most of the time i have homework and things like that, in the afternoon i am at school which is more than an hour from my home, and i'm out of there at 10.40 pm which means i am home at about midnight, but i spend at least 20 minutes out for the dog so i am home at about 12.20 get some food and do whatever i have to do, and by the time i can go to bed it's already 1 am or maybe later. and then the next day still awake at 6. and my sleeping is crap, i rarely have more than 3 hours sleep and it's not good sleep, i often have nightmares and things. it's stressing and tiring, but for some reason i can't explain it's beautiful. i don't know how to explain, but it makes me feel so alive. i consider myself lucky to do all the normal things everyone does in life, as stressful and tiring they could be, i think some people should try to appreciate these things instead of complaining about every little thing like they are the only ones to suffer a pain like waking up at 6.30 in the morning

6:30? Hmmm. I'd like to sleep that late. 4:45 is my general wake-up time, and I've a cat who walks on the talk button of the alarm, rattles trash bags, and pulls covers off. Still, my heart doesn't start beating til about 11:00. Still, I'm with the last post. I've two jobs that I absolutely love that make getting up worthwhile.

Now Katie, to your issue. I don't know how much cafine you take in, but you might try cutting back on it later in the day. If I could take coffee in an I.V, I'd be happy, but I'd miss the taste too much. Seriously, that helps me n the morning. couldn't walk to the bus and safely cross streets if I weren't somewhat awake. The hot shower, and I do mean hot shower does wonders for me.

You also might try some things on the going to sleep end of the day like getting into a routine before you go to bed that relaxes you. Sometimes, a hot drink like hot chocolate or ovaltine (hope I spelled that right) works, too.

Well it's getting colder, and I live in one of the coledest areas of town, and when it's warm in bed, and cold outside, staying in bed seems more appealing. I have the luxury of being able to make that choice, except when my input is required at meetings of the two committees on which I am a member. When I have to get up, I usually do. I don't believe there's any point in liking or disliking having to get up. Whether you like it or not, you'll usually get up eventually anyway, so just get up!

Post 18 by audioadict (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 19-Nov-2007 19:55:43

Well, I wonder what I could do to relax myself at night? The only thing that distracts me from sleeping is worrying about what the next day will bring.

My idea is grow the freak up! You would for sure not survive the military.

Post 20 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Monday, 19-Nov-2007 20:55:20

Try to listen to soft music or slow your activities before going to bed and stop worrying about the next day until it gets there.

Post 21 by YankeeFanForLife! (Picapiedra: king of the boards!) on Monday, 19-Nov-2007 21:13:33

A warm shower would do you good. It would help you go strate to sleep.

Post 22 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Monday, 19-Nov-2007 21:22:20

agree. a warm shower before going to sleep is just wonderful.
it not necessarily makes you sleep, but i do it every time before going to sleep and it sure relaxes me. and don't worry too much about what the next day will bring, you will take care of that when the day comes. whatever it is, you sure will face it better after a good night of sleep. i have alot of sleeping problems too, but when i manage to have a decent night of sleep i see the difference the next day

Post 23 by audioadict (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 19-Nov-2007 21:40:28

I haven't had a good night sleep since I was a little girl. Good ideas.

Post 24 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Tuesday, 20-Nov-2007 0:02:24

A hot drink can also soothe you before sleep. get in to a routine of perhaps a hot bath, something warm to help you relax, and then lie down and put some soothing music on. just let it lull you to sleep. and about not lasting in the military, yeah, she's probably right about that. drill sergeants don't care how tired soldiers are.
